Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) – Level 2 Diploma
COURSE OVERVIEW
The Level 2 Diploma is an intensive course to prepare you for a career within the electrical installations industry.
You will learn both practical installation skills in our workshops and the theory and science behind electrics.
In workshop sessions you will learn how to install wiring systems, bond mains services to main earthing terminals and inspect and test a dead electrical installation. You will explore different earthing systems and understand how electricity is supplied.
In theory classes you will learn about the basic principles of electrical science, apply mathematical principles, understand different circuit types and wiring systems for domestic, commercial and hazardous environments.
The structure of our programmes follows clear educational aims that are expected from the awarding bodies. These are all outlined in the programme specifications which include further details such as the learning outcomes.

FURTHER INFORMATION
The following sets out some of the most common entry requirements. However, each application is reviewed on its individual strengths and merits.
You need to have an interest in electrical installation.
You may have previously completed the Level 1 Diploma in Electrical Installation, though this is not a formal requirement.
GCSEs – you should have achieved GCSE (or equivalent) Maths or English with at least a grade 4 (or grade C) and at least a grade 3 in the other to be able to join.
Construction or engineering related experience is useful, but this is not essential.
A positive attitude, enthusiasm towards learning and good attendance is also important.

Completing the Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation provides you with several options for further progression. Chichester College offers:
Apprenticeship – Completing the Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation could help you gain an apprenticeship with an employer in the trade. At Chichester College we offer:
- Electrotechnical Installation Electrician – Level 3 Apprenticeship
- Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician – Level 3 Apprenticeship
Further Study -; You could progress to the Level 3 Electrical Installations – Level 3 Diploma (self-funded).
T Level – These are new technical level 3 qualifications studied for two years. At Chichester College, we offer:
- T Level in On-Site Construction
- T Level in Building Services Engineering
- T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning
Alternatively, you may wish to pursue entry level employment, such as an Improver or Electrical Mate.
This is a qualification that tests both practical and knowledge-based skills to reflect that of a realistic working environment.
You will be assessed by on-line multiple-choice tests and practical assignments.
Course Costs
You will be supplied with safety glasses, gloves, a face mask and earplugs at the beginning of the course. This Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
There is a £50.00 to cover: Material costs, specialist software licences and other consumables. (Payable online before enrolment. Support with this may be available through applying for bursary on the CCG website.)
You will also need to supply your own safety boots and wear appropriate clothes for workshop sessions and site visits.
Course Fees
If you are a student and are under 19 at the beginning of your course, you do not have to pay tuition or exam fees for the majority of courses. If you are 19 or over when you start your course, you will have to contribute to your course fees in line with government guidelines.

We will make all reasonable efforts to provide you with the courses, services and facilities described in this prospectus.
The course is timetabled to require attendance over 3 days a week.
The course will include elements of ‘remote-learning’;. We use MS Teams and CCG Online Moodle for online learning.
Your learning consists of classroom-based teaching and practical teaching in the workshop.
- Classroom based learning will be taught by industry-experienced lecturers who will share their knowledge through detailed handouts, presentations, group work, debate and discussion and interactive lecturing.
- Practical training is completed in our workshops alongside technicians and instructors who can develop your abilities and skills.
All workshop lessons require the highest standard of behaviour and the use of personal protection equipment. Classes are also dedicated to teaching you about the important topic of health and safety.
We provide demonstrations and assignment packs to allow you to record information and completion progress for wiring systems. These packs are a valuable source of feedback and provide a good demonstration of competence for potential employers.
