COURSE OVERVIEW
If you are an adult (over 19) and wish to improve your English skills to gain employment, launch a new career or improve your promotion prospects or you want to be able to support your children or just prove to yourself and others that you can do it, then this is the course for you.
You will study language skills, analysis of texts, spelling, punctuation and grammar, presentation skills and persuasive writing.
The course takes place over one academic year starting in September and ending with 2 exams in May/June the following year.
You will attend one 3-hour lesson per week and will need to complete some self-study during the week.
There are a choice of daytime and evening classes. Some flexibility to swap days is possible to fit in with your shift patterns if necessary.
FURTHER INFORMATION
This course is for adults who have not previously achieved a GCSE grade C or grade 4. You will be asked to complete an online assessment to check your current skill level before being offered a place on the course.
You may offered a place on a pre-GCSE course to build your confidence and skills before joining a GCSE class next year.
GCSE English opens many doors to promotion, higher level courses (e.g. access courses)and even university.
Final assessment will be two exams taken in May/June, one without a calculator.
Your progress will be monitored throughout the year through the use of practice questions and exam walkthroughs to help you to identify topics and skills that you need to focus on.
The course is FREE for most UK residents as long as you do not already have a grade C or grade 4 in GCSE maths.
