COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is a fantastic first introduction into the exciting and vibrant world of the hospitality industry. It will give you the basic knowledge required to begin a career in many different areas of the industry either in the kitchen or front of house. Even if you decide that the industry is not for you, you will gain many valuable transferrable work skills and life skills while studying this course.
The course itself centres around food and customer service skills. You will learn to cook in one of our exceptional high tech kitchens, and customer service skills in out fully functioning restaurants. In the classroom you will learn about the hospitality industry, including the diverse range of job opportunities that are on offer to you. You will also learn how to plan menus and about healthy eating.
All of the hospitality lecturers here at Chichester College are passionate about training others and they have all worked for many years within the industry in a diverse range of job roles including the Army and Navy as chefs, hotel, restaurant and nightclub managers, events and wedding co-ordinators and patisserie chefs.
The study program of all learners under the age of 19 will include Math and English if you have not already achieved a grade 4 GCSE in these subjects.

This is your first step into the world of hospitality. Successful completion of this course means that you can progress onto several different courses dependant on the GCSE entry requirements. This may be:
Level 1 Hospitality and Catering
Level 2 Professional Cookery
Level 2 Food and Beverage Service
Level 3 Hospitality Supervision
You will be assessed using a range of assessment methods, these will include practical observations where you will be observed performing a range of criteria, for example, preparing food and/or cooking a given dish or setting up the restaurant for service.
The theory part of the course will be assessed via short answer questions, one unit at a time.
Some units may be assessed by project work.
All candidates studying the course will be required to purchase a full hospitality uniform which includes kitchen and front of house uniform and a knife kit. This is purchased through our partner suppliers at a cost of approximately £350.

There is an additional cost of £50.00 for consumable items used over the duration of the course.
