COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is designed to support you to meet the requirements for Level 2 Early Years practitioners. You will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to provide high quality Early Years care and education, and you will be able to progress to the Level 3 course if you meet the entry requirements. You will learn about working with babies and young children form birth to seven years of age, with the opportunity to work with children during your practical training placement. This course meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You will need to meet the following criteria in order to secure a place on the course:
4 GCSEs at grade 3 or higher, one of which must be English Language. It is important that you have an English Language GCSE as you will be working with young children, supporting their emerging literacy.
You will need an enhanced Disclosure and Barring service check and provide two satisfactory references.
This qualification will allow you to work in the Early Years sector in the following roles: Nursery Assistant, Creche Assistant, Mothers Help, Shared-care Nanny, Teaching Assistant.
In the classroom you will produce a portfolio of evidence, there are no exams. Your portfolio may contain assignments, posters, leaflets, PowerPoint presentations and other written work. You may also create a scrapbook that contains work relating to care routines for children and child development. This work will be assessed by your lecturer as you go along. In your practical training placement you will plan and carry out activities and work as part of the team. Your allocated assessor will observe you working with the children and staff and will help you with putting theory into practice. Your assessor will also make plans with you for further assessments.
