Autism Awareness


This short course is designed to give the non-specialist a general understanding and overview of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and the behaviours associated with this condition. You will learn about some of the challenges faced by people with ASD, and some practical strategies for supporting them. You will also gain practical skills to support individuals on the autistic spectrum.

Over the 5 weeks we will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to Autism
  • The emotional implications of ASD for the individual and the family.
  • Behaviours associated with ASD.
  • Strategies to help individuals with ASD cope with everyday situations.
  • Supporting autistic individuals to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

The Autism Awareness course will run twice in 2024-25 on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-12:00. Please see dates opposite.

Please note this course does not run in the college half term or end of term breaks.


This course is suitable for adults (19+) with a genuine interest in the subject
