The Support Technician role is desk based resolving system user queries and resolving faults in a helpdesk environment.
For example, a Support Technician in a Travel Agent would use a system to manage their customer bookings and when the system fails it needs rectifying rapidly in order to reduce the financial impact and damage to customer reputation.
The business would contact a Support Technician to report the problem and either get it fixed or escalated to an engineer.
There is no cost to an apprentice towards the training.
If you are an employer employing an apprentice over the age 21 (without an EHCP) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account
It is recommended that you have access to a PC or Laptop with a high specification as for some units you’ll be running Virtual Machines which can take up hard drive space and use a lot of processing power as well.
Recommended Spec for PC and Laptop:
CPU: 9th or 8th Gen i7
RAM: 16GB or above (maximum for a Laptop is 64GB)
Storage: 250GB SSD and/or 1TB SSD/HDD
GPU: for example Nvidia GTX 1660 or above (this can vary).
