Access Diploma in Environmental Science


Environmental Science is a highly relevant interdisciplinary science option. It is ideal study for anyone interested in contemporary environmental issues, conservation, environmental management, ecology, systems thinking and sustainability.

Throughout the course students will also cover a variety of research methods.

You will have the opportunity to work in groups and individually to complete your work. Tasks are varied and are based around ‘real world’ examples which explain and highlight environmental theories and concepts. You will also complete a number of practical experiments both in class and outside.

There are three key areas covered over one year:

  • Environmental Sciences (33 Credits) Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental and Earth Science
  • Maths (12 Credits)
  • Working in Science (15 Credits) Project, Fieldwork, Scientific Communication


You will need a minimum of five GCSE’s at 9-4 (A*-C) including grade 4 (C) in Maths, Science and English Language.

Students need an interest in the world about them, particularly in climate change, pollution, sustainability and conservation.
