University level courses

Thinking about university but not quite sure...

Perhaps you want to do a more vocational qualification, or maybe the course fees are an issue for you, or your A level results weren’t quite what you hoped for, but you still need a higher qualification for your chosen career.

You may not realise, but here at Chichester College, we have the answer.  We can offer you a choice of university level courses with focused, expert tuition and with very reasonable course fees.  We offer:

These qualifications are broadly equivalent to the first years of an Honours Degree.  Students who do well on these courses can choose to move on to the final years of an Honours Degree at a partner university or go out to work with a higher qualification on their CV.

Our university level courses prepare students for professional careers. They combine theory, practical and research sessions and our students gain experience in organisation and managing others as well as developing their own practical and technical skills to a high level.  Our tutors offer experienced, focussed teaching in specific vocational areas.  On many of these courses students are also able to gain additional professional qualifications along the way, which enhances their job prospects.

Our Higher Education courses page has details of the courses on offer and an opportunity to apply directly.

And, if you’ve been out of education for some time and don’t have any A levels or their equivalents, you can enrol for our Access to Higher Education Diploma courses which gets you back into learning and prepares you for study at university level.

HND and HNC courses

The following subjects are available to start in September 2009:

  • Animal Management

  • Business with e-Business

Annual course fees for HNDs and HNCs are much lower than those for a degree, which is attractive to those worried about getting into debt while at university. More information on fees is available here.

Foundation Degrees

Foundation Degrees are a relatively new type of university level qualification, they are innovative because they are work related and have been designed in consultation with employers to equip students with the relevant knowledge and skills for business.  If you're already in work, a foundation degree will give you the skills you need to develop your career further.  If you're moving on from full-time education, a foundation degree (which usually takes two years full-time) could be the perfect kick start to your career.

The following subjects are available from September 2009.

  • Business and Management - with the University of Portsmouth (part-time course)
  • Computer Services Management - with Thames Valley University (part-time course)
  • Community Sports Coaching - with the University of Chichester (full-time course)
  • Health Promotion and Personal Training - with the University of Chichester (full-time course)
  • Hospitality and Event Management - with the University of Chichester (full-time course)

If you want to know more about foundation degrees visit the Learning at Work Information Service website.

Extended Degrees

Extended degrees are offered by universities, particularly in science, to enable students who don't have the appropriate qualifications to take the honours degree.  This may be because a student didn't get the required grades in science or because they have been studying humanities and now want to transfer to science.  We work in partnership with two universities to offer the first, foundation year of their extended degrees:

  • Biological Sciences in partnership with the University of Sussex
  • Foundation Year Science in partnership with the University of Portsmouth
