Employees at Chichester College have the opportunity to get involved in College matters through our elected Staff Committee.
Chichester College established its Staff Committee, formally known as the Staff Council, in 2001 to provide a forum for staff representatives to meet members of the Governing Body and the Senior Management Team to discuss matters of mutual concern or interest.
The Committee is an effective means of consulting with members of staff on strategic and operational issues including the working environment, conditions of service and new legislation.
Objectives of the Staff Committee include:
To provide staff with an opportunity to contribute toward management decisions, raise issues and share good practice.
To enable management to seek the views of staff through elected representatives.
To enhance communication and provide a forum for new policy and strategy to be reviewed and discussed.
To act as the principle body for the purposes of consultation with staff as follows:
- recent and probable developments in its activities and economic situation
- the situation, structure and probable development of employment, and any anticipatory measures that are envisaged, especially where there is a threat to employment
- decisions likely to lead to substantial changes in work organisation or contractual relations
The Committee does not have any decision-making powers nor is it a negotiating body. Having discussed issues it may make recommendations to the Governing Body and its Committees or other appropriate meetings.
Role and Expectations of Staff Representatives
It is expected that the elected staff representatives will be aware of constituent views, concerns and suggestions for improvement through pro-active communication. They will willingly speak on behalf of their constituents ensuring that all views are reflected at Staff Committee meetings and other related meetings, behave in a professional manner and in accordance with the College’s standards of behaviour, supporting the College’s core values and facilitate action or discussion between constituents and appropriate College teams/staff.
