Professional development

The College is committed to providing opportunities for all staff, whatever their role, to develop their competence and capability in a way that enables them to contribute effectively to the achievement of the College’s aims, and to support their own career development.

It is the role of the Professional Development Centre to ensure that the training and development needs of areas, teams and individuals are met, through the provision of:

  • Induction and mentoring arrangements which ensure that members of staff who are new to the College, and those newly promoted, are adequately prepared for and supported in their new roles.
  • Initial teacher training for all unqualified staff carrying out a teaching role.
  • A leadership and management development programme, linked to the College’s management competences.
  • In-house training and development activities related to the strategic and operational priorities of the College.
  • Support for staff attendance at external events, where appropriate training is not available within the College.
  • Contribution to the costs of qualification training which is relevant to the needs of the College.
  • A consultancy and advice service to curriculum and business support areas where they may wish to design specific activities to meet their particular needs.

In addition, there are five days throughout the academic year that are dedicated to the provision of development-related activities for all staff.
