English Language Study in the UK
At Chichester College students can study intensive courses in English language which have a variety of activities, options and examinations . It is possible to study English throughout the year including on the Summer School and join the programme for a minimum of two weeks on any Monday morning.
There are seven different levels of English from elementary to advanced. Every student is given an initial assessment and then placed on a course at the appropriate level. The English Language programme has approximately 400 students from 80 different countries throughout the world.
General English Language
The General English Language course is available at the Chichester Campus in the UK and is 15 hours a week in the mornings. Students learn English through a variety of activities aimed at improving:
- Grammar.
- Vocabulary.
- Pronunciation.
- Reading.
- Writing.
- Speaking.
- Listening.
Lessons are in the morning and divided into two classes, the first class is 9.15am - 10.45am, and the second classis 11.00am - 12.30pm. Homework and class tests are given at regular intervals to assess and monitor students’ progress.
The General English programme in the UK is excellent preparation for Cambridge ESOL Examinations and Anglia Examinations. Every student on the programme is entered for an Anglia Examination which is included in their tuition fees.
All students also receive a 12 month subscription to Burlington English which is a unique on-line interactive study programme designed to meet students’ individual needs. This is also included in the tuition fees.
All EU students are required to do a nationally recognised test in English Language which assess their ability to use English in realistic situations.
English Extra
Taking the UK English Extra Language course at Chichester College means students can develop their English Language and learn to put it into practice. Students choose 1 or 2 Extra subjects in the afternoon in addition to the General English classes in the morning. Extra subjects are studied between 13.30pm and 16.15pm. One subject is two afternoons a week and 2.5 hours long. It is possible to choose from a whole range of options which can include:
- University of Cambridge Examination Preparation (Intensive) PET, FCE, CAE, CPE
- IELTS preparation
- TOEIC preparation
- Anglia Examination Preparation
- Academic English
- English for Media
- English for Travel & Tourism
- English for Holistic Therapies
- Introduction to Business English
- Advanced Business English
- English for Teachers
- English for Current Affairs
- English for Cookery
- English for Air Cabin Crew Services
