English Study Year

Study with British Students

English Study Year at Chichester College allows students to study English language with other subjects alongside British students where possible. The year combines  approximately 15 hours of English Language and up to 9 hours of Academic or Vocational study a week.

This course develops students’  English and gives them the opportunity to practice it. The focus of this course is on English language and developing  academic or vocational vocabulary, knowledge and skills but not taking qualifications.

Students need to have English language ability equivalent to IELTS 4.5 or 5.0 depending on the subjects they wish to study with English. After an initial assessment on arrival at the college students will be placed in a classes suitable for their level of English. Joining academic or vocational classes with British students will depend on class sizes.

EU Students complete an NVQ in English as a Foreign Language. Cambridge and Anglia examinations, at an appropriate level, are also optional. The Anglia suite of examinations offers both General English and four levels of Business English that could be combined with studies in an academic Business course.

Alongside their English studies students can choose up to two academic or one vocational course depending on their timetables. Academic courses are more theory based subjects whilst vocational courses are more practical and skill based programmes related to particular careers. Some combination of subjects will not be possible. Available subjects will be confirmed on arrival.
