GCE AS and A-Level Studies
This intensive two year programme is designed for students who have completed the first year of senior high school or equivalent and who intend to progress to a UK university to study a degree programme.
The first year of the course is called AS–level and students usually study three or four subjects in depth. The emphasis in the first year is on gaining knowledge and skills and applying these in appropriate situations.
During the second year, called A2, students continue to study the same subjects as in the first year but the course places more emphasis on analysis and synthesis and the evaluation and interpretation of materials.
This programme is for students who are 16 years of age or over, have completed the first year of senior high school or equivalent and have English language ability equivalent approximately to IELTS 5.5.
There are over 40 different subjects to choose from on the course but international students often study three or four subjects from the following:
- Mathematics
- Business Studies
- Accounting
- Economics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
However, students can study any subjects offered by the college usually with British students.
All British universities accept A-level subjects as entry qualifications. The college had excellent results in 2011 with a 97% pass rate with 22 subjects having a100% pass rate. 72% of subject grades were A* to C which are the grades required to progress to a good university and be offered a place on a popular degree programme.
