
Apprenticeship in Level 2 Wood Occupations: site carpentry and bench joinery
This framework is designed to provide your organisation with skilled staff in Carpentry or Joinery work.
The course will enable trainees to do the following:
• Work accurately from information such as specifications, job sheets, drawings, schedules or verbal instructions
• Select the correct type and quantity of materials, components, fixings, tools & equipment for the job
• Always work in a safe & healthy manner (meeting current regulations) which includes correctly wearing the appropriate specific PPE, working safely from access / working platforms and using materials, hand & portable power tools and equipment safely
• Protect their work, adjacent areas and the environment, which includes the appropriate disposal of waste
• Complete work in the time that has been allocated, to satisfy the client or other occupations
For Both Site Carpentry and Joinery the student will cover:
1. Conforming to General Workplace Safety
2. Conforming to efficient work practices (e.g. working to guidelines, communicating with colleagues)
3. Moving and handling resources
For Site Carpentry the student will choose two of the following:
1. Install first fix components
2. Install second fix components
3. Erect Structural Carcassing
4. Maintain non- structural carpentry work
5. Set up and use Circular saws.
For Joinery students two of the following will be covered:
1. Set up and use Circular saws
2. Produce setting out details for routine products
3. Mark out from setting out details for routine products
4. Manufacture routine products.
Qualification and Awarding Body
• level 2 NVQ in Wood occupations (site carpentry or bench joinery) .
• Level 2 City and Guilds Diploma in Carpentry.
• Functional Skills in English and Maths at level 1.

• Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
Are Adult Apprenticeships available?
Yes anyone from 16-65 will be considered
Where will the training take place?
Chichester Terminus Road Campus and in the workplace
When will the Apprenticeship start?
September – additional start dates can be arranged throughout the year
How long will it take?
24 months
What are the entry requirements?
Attend Induction and Information Session and pass the Carpentry Skills Aptitude test
