Why We Are Implementing Changes
During 2008 the Higher Education Council for England and Wales (HEFCE) decided that they would no longer fund students who wanted to take another HE qualification at a similar or lower level to the one they had already achieved. Thus a student who completed an HE level qualification (BA, BSc, HND/ HNC etc), would not be funded to study another degree or a specialist HND/ HNC.
Effect on student recruitment.
As a result of this decision, Chichester College will not be publically funded for a student who is studying an HND or HNC and who already has a degree, or an HND/HNC in another subject.
Charges for students who already have an equivalent qualification
Currently, Chichester College charges the legally fixed tuition fee for all its full time HND and HNC qualifications. This currently stands at £1,285 for 2009-10 and will rise to £1,315 for 2010/11.
On top of this, HEFCE funds the College at around £2,950 per student for a classroom based subject, and a higher amount if the subject has more practical elements such as Animal Care, which is funded at approximately £5,000 per student, and Computing at £3,800 per student.
Where a student already has an equivalent qualification, the HEFCE funding will not be available. Therefore it is proposed that the College will charge £2,500 per annum in 2010/11 for those students who already have an equivalent level qualification. This is significantly lower than the likely charge made by other local colleges and universities. If it is a practical subject, which attracts more funding, the charge will be £4,250 for Animal Care and £3,250 for other non-classroom subjects.
