Notes from the Grooming Table
Students and staff in the Dog Grooming parlour at the Brinsbury campus of Chichester College have had an amazing two years! The NPTC Level 3 advanced certificate students have just completed with a 100% pass rate. Having checked with other colleges it appears that this result may be a first!
The results have been achieved with the dedication of the staff, the clients who bring their dogs in, and of course the hard work of the students; for those who may read this, “the nagging was worth it then!” The NPTC Level 2 has also been a great achievement for staff, with 100% achievement again, especially as now it is only an 18 weeks, one day a week course.
We launch into 2009 with both the NPTC Courses, that is levels 2 and 3, plus the self funded Chichester Certificate in Dog Grooming. It is possible more self- funded courses will be introduced for particular students with maybe their own ideals. We try to suit individuals needs, so anyone with any interests please let us know.
For anyone not sure about what the courses are about a brief outline follows;
NPTC Level 2 is a starter course introducing dogs, coat types, nail clipping, health checks, bathing and grooming. Assessment is ongoing with a multiple choice online test at the end of the course.
The Chichester College Certificate in Dog Grooming is a course that teaches clipping, trimming and most of the NPTC Level 3 content. It is an excellent course for those students who have achieved level 2 but maybe do not work in a grooming workplace to gain the required criteria for level 3. Assessment is ongoing with a portfolio built by the student with guidance from their tutors. Some talented students could go onto level 3 after the aforementioned course.
NPTC Level 3 is for students who have experience in the workplace (a minimum of a year) or previous qualifications. They need to do a clipping and scissoring skills test, prior to acceptance. Practical exams are taken during the course with a theory exam containing breeds, coat care, finishing lines, diseases, basic management and laws taken either in June or October. The NPTC Courses are recognized workplace qualifications.
Of course we can tell you much more in person about the courses and learn about your needs so anyone interested in Dog Grooming should contact us in the grooming parlour on 01243 786321 ext. 1040 or 01798 872953.
