BTEC Nationals

You may well have heard the term BTEC National whilst thinking about what to do after your GCSEs, but you may not know the wide range of these qualifications that we offer or exactly what gaining a BTEC National can do for you and your future career.

BTEC Nationals are designed as specialist qualifications for students who have a clear view of their future career or are who want to go on to higher education.  BTEC Nationals are equivalent to A levels and are highly valued by universities, further education colleges and employers alike.

A BTEC National Diploma is worth the same UCAS points as three A levels and is a full time, two year course whichever subject you choose to follow.  We also offer a BTEC National Certificate equivalent to two A levels and the BTEC National awards, which are worth the same as one A level.  You can mix and match BTECs and A levels for example combining a BTEC National Award with 2 A levels.

Each year, hundreds of students at Chichester College achieve BTEC National qualifications. BTEC National courses offer students a technical and specialist introduction to areas of work such as Engineering, Sport, iMedia, Computing and Health and Social Care.  The individual courses cover both theory and practical hands on sessions, for example in Sport there are theory sessions on human physiology and sports psychology and practical sessions using equipment that is often found in the workplace.  You will be able to do some work experience or work in a simulated workplace within the college which will prepare you well for either your new job, or your university course.  Progress is assessed continuously through coursework rather than examinations at the end of your course.
